Wood Sanding

Surface preparation – Sanding

The purpose of sanding is primarily cosmetic – that is, to remove mill marks, tool marks, other defects and to
smooth surfaces. When sanding, sandpaper leaves small grooves relative to the grit size of the paper used.
Sanding with progressively finer grits makes these grooves smaller. Once the grooves are small enough so
they can not be seen with the naked eye, then the process can end.
